Charlie Chopra Review | A Crime Thriller

Last night, I binge-watched “Charlie Chopra” Season 1, and to be completely honest, I found this web series quite enjoyable. It’s a crime thriller web series, and the best part was that I was completely engrossed in it. I had a lot of fun watching it. The best thing about this web series is that it wasn’t unnecessarily lengthy. It consists of 6 episodes, and each episode has an average duration of around 40 minutes. The story isn’t overly exaggerated, and it stays true to its plot. It’s a murder mystery web series, and what sets it apart is its sound, which takes it to another level. There’s a slight touch of horror in it that adds a bit of fear, but it also keeps the interest alive.

Cast

Wamiqa Gabbi

In this web series, Wamiqa Gabbi plays the main lead, and her acting is truly outstanding. She keeps the audience thoroughly entertained with her one-liner jokes and delivers a fantastic performance. She has done a great job with her Punjabi accent, which adds a unique flavor to her character. Wamiqa Gabbi is the standout in this web series, with most of the screen time revolving around her character. Her portrayal of the role is exceptional, ensuring that the audience doesn’t get bored. Her ability to combine emotional and funny scenes is something rarely seen, making this a treat to watch.

Priyanshu Painyuli

You may recognize Priyanshu Painyuli from “Mirzapur,” where he left his mark with excellent acting. In this series, he also delivers a commendable performance in a support role. However, there are some areas where his facial expressions and acting could be improved. There are instances where he could have done better, but overall, he plays his role well.

Gulshan Grover

The entire web series revolves around Gulshan Grover. He has done an exceptional job with his acting, displaying impeccable facial expressions and delivering dialogues flawlessly. He portrays a dominating personality effectively, which adds depth to the series.

Vivaan Shah

In my opinion, Vivaan Shah is the weakest point of this web series. You believe that his acting shows signs of overacting, and there are instances where he fumbles with his dialogues. Perhaps this is why he has fewer scenes in the series.

Other actors also did great job special mention to Lara Dutta, Naseeruddin Shah, Neena Gupta, Pulkit Makol, Imaad Shah, Chandan Roy, Ratna Pathak Shah, Baharul Islam, Amitab Bhattacharjee, and Damini Basu, delivered exceptional performances in the web series “Charlie Chopra.” Listing their individual contributions in detail could indeed make the review quite lengthy. If you’d like to discuss any specific character or actor in more detail or have questions about the series, feel free to ask on insta and I’d be happy to provide additional information or insights.

Direction

The series is directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, known for his work on movies like “Kaminey,” “Maqbool,” and “Haider.” You consider “Charlie Chopra” to be his best-directed work so far. He has chosen perfect characters according to their roles, which significantly enhances the web series. The decision to shoot the series in Manali, Solang, and Kothi instead of a film city has contributed to its visuals, making them remarkable. However, you found the snowfall effects to be lacking in providing a real feel.

Story

The web series is a crime mystery based on Agatha Christie’s novel “The Sittaford Mystery.” The story revolves around the death of Meherbaan (played by Gulshan Grover), with suspicions falling on Jimmy (played by Vivaan Shah) and other relatives. Each relative has a reason to want Meherbaan dead, including Jimmy. In this scenario, Charlie (played by Wamiqa Gabbi) takes on the role of a detective to uncover the murderer, making it an excellent suspense thriller
