Russian space agency Roscosmos says its Luna-25 spacecraft has crashed into the moon. Russia’s first moon mission in 47 years failed after its Luna-25 spacecraft spun out of control and smashed into moon on August 20. Russia’s state space corporation, Roskosmos, said it had lost contact with the craft shortly after a problem occurred as the craft was shunted into pre-landing orbit today.
The device entered an unpredictable orbit and vanished due to a collision with the Moon’s surface, according to Roskosmos’ official announcement. This sudden and unexpected end of the mission marks a major setback in Russia’s space exploration plans and has shocked the scientific and space community around the world.
Luna 25 plans
Main mission of this Luna 25 is to find water on the surface of moon it has to be there for 1 year and send all the data on earth about water on moon.
On August 19, according to the flight program of Luna-25, the spacecraft was scheduled to execute an impulse to form a pre-landing elliptical orbit. At approximately 14:57 Moscow local time, communication with Luna-25 was lost. On August 20, Roskosmos issued a statement on Telegram, saying that the efforts made on August 19 and August 20 to locate and contact the device did not yield any results.
Russia’s space agency, Roskosmos, had big plans for Luna-25, saying it would be a major step forward in the country’s space exploration story. It was supposed to be the first successful Soviet moon mission in almost five decades. But the accident has not only killed those plans, but it’s also opened up questions about technical challenges and what can go wrong when space agencies are trying to do such big things.
Space race between India and Russia
The world make a secnario of space race between India and Russia but its totally impractical because the budget of Luna 25 was around 2 billion dollars where India’s chandaryaan 3 budget is just 75 million dollars where Luna 25 going directly to the moon where as Chandrayaan 3 taking orbital path and using earth and moon gravity to go to the moon. Where Chandrayaan 3 take 40 days to get in the moon’s orbit Luna 25 reaches moon’s orbit in just 6 days so its totally impractical about space race between Russia and India. Russia have alot experience in space research, Russia was the first country to send a satellite in the space and also send the first human in the space at that time Indian space agency is not properly formed so there is no comparison between India and Russia about space race.
