The NCERT has made a big announcement that students of Class 12 will no longer be able to study chapters on the Mughal courts within the history books of CBSE and UP Boards. The NCERT has removed the chapters and topics relating to ‘Kings and chronicles; the mughal courts (C.16th-17th centuries)’ from the new history book ‘Themes of Indian history-Part II’ under its rationalised syllabus for the academic session of 2023-24.

According to the state secondary education department, lessons on the ‘Central Islamic lands’, ‘confrontation of cultures’ and ‘The Industrial Revolution’ have also been removed from the class 11 textbook ‘Themes In world history’. Under the now removed topics of the history books for Class 12, students will be informed about ‘Akbarnama’ (official chronicle of Akbar’s reign) and ‘Badshah nama’ (chronicle of Shah Jahan’s Mughal Emperor) and ‘Mughal rulers and empire’, including the composition of the manuscripts, colour illustrations of ideal states, titles, gifts.

In addition, we also taught questions on formal religion,” said the senior history teacher from the UP Board recognised institution in Prayag. Similarly, the chapters on ‘US Hibernation in World Politics’ and ‘Cold War Era’ in the Class 12 Civics textbook have been completely deleted.

‘The Rise of Popular Movements’ and the ‘Era of One-Party Dominance’ in the textbook ‘Politics in India since Independence’ for Class 12 students have also been deleted. In this textbook, the students were taught about the ‘dominance’ of the Congress party, the Socialist party, the Communist party of India, the Bharatiya jana sangh and the swatantra party.

Class 10’s lessons on democracy and diversity, popular struggles and movement, and challenges to democracy have also been deleted from the textbook ‘Democratic politics-ll’.
