A twenty-five-year-old male was apprehended by the police in Jodhpur on Monday for displaying his genitalia to a South Korean tourist. The twenty-eight-year-old female had uploaded a video of the incident on her video-sharing platform, which had been picked up by the police.
On Monday morning, the accused, Deepak, allegedly followed the woman for a few minutes after he spotted her alone on Pachetia hill, a popular tourist spot in a walled city. When the woman stopped to protest, he ran ahead of her, blocking her path, and dropped his pants to show his genitals. The woman was in shock and started screaming, after which the accused ran off and disappeared into the crowd of passersby.
Dinesh Kotwali, the SHO of the area, said that Deepak is a resident of the same locality. “He is mentally ill and keeps wandering around,” he added. “We have arrested him on the charge of disturbing the peace, as the tourist did not lodge a complaint.”
An Italian tourist was accosted by a coach attendant on a train from Jaisalmer to Phalodi earlier this month. The attendant, upon finding the woman alone in the train’s II AC coach, attempted to coerce her into a sexual relationship. The woman, who was in a state of panic, locked herself in a bathroom and reported the incident to her friend, who forwarded the information to railway officials, who informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Indian Railway Police (GRP). The RPF and the GRP responded to the incident and arrested the attendant. However, the tourist did not lodge a complaint. The coach attendant was released with a warning.
