Another Lithium mine found in Rajasthan

Rajasthan finds new lithium reserves, said to be larger than those found in J&K

According to Rajasthan government officials and the GSI, new lithium reserves have been found in Degana municipality, Nagaur district, Rajasthan. The reserves are said to be much larger than those found recently in J&K.

The reserves in Rajasthan are said to have the capacity to meet 80 percent of India’s total demand for lithium, which can significantly reduce the country’s dependence on foreign imports of lithium, especially from China.

In 2020-21, the country imported lithium worth 6,000 crore rupees, of which 3,500 crore rupees were imported from China.

Lithium is a nonferrous metal used in the production of rechargeable batteries, such as those used in smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles.

It’s estimated that by 2030, there will be 13.92 lakh electric vehicles (EVs) on the roads in India. The news that these reserves of lithium have been discovered is good news because they’re an absolute alternative to the minerals that are being mined out of the ground right now. The thing is, when it comes to making lithium-ion battery packs for EVs, once it’s extracted, it can’t be used forever because the lithium in the battery packs can’t be recycled forever and can be put back into new battery packs.
